Don't worry! You may have negative connotations about bats, but they play an important role in nature. They produce guano (fertilizer), limit insect populations, and are necessary for certain plants. Contrary to what you see in T.V. and movies, bats are not evil.
Bats are symbols of transition and initiation and can be seen as representing the traditional shaman's journey. This involves the breaking down of mental, cognitive, and perceptual barriers to face one's fears and journey to new realms and bring back new information. This level of change is, for most, psychedelic, and intense. It can be distressing if one is not ready to embrace the change or does not have the inner tools to handle it.
The bat reminds us to let go of our own emotional and mental programming and attachments so that we may transform our lives and bloom into new blessings. This totem also reminds us that change, fundamentally, comes from within and that our outer world is a reflection of our inner world.
The bat is social and nocturnal. Ask yourself: are you still afraid of darkness? Bats are able to move through darkness with perfection, due to their sonar. This can be associated with clairaudience and the telepathic channels in one's head and ears. Are you listening to your own inner voice for guidance or of the spirits, and people, around you? Can you tell the difference?
The bat promises the manifestation of new horizons and unexpected perceptions. Are you ready for it?
